Dog Flea Medication

By Ray Lam

The number one most commonly registered complaint of dog and cat owners is that they tend to carry fleas. If you watch the ads on TV, it can seem that treating them is an easy task and all that is needed in most instances is a flea collar at the most. The fact is, that a flea collar will work but not completely.

Flea medicine is so effective that a few drops (3 to 5) on your dog or cat's back can work wonders and within minutes your pet will be prevented from being bitten by the fleas. Flea medicine works fast, is thoroughly reliable and easy to use. Besides, it is undemanding to both you and your pet.

When using natural flea treatment for your pet you will want to go to a pet store that carries dog flea treatment products that are made from one hundred percent natural ingredients. These products are very effective for getting rid of fleas and they don?t contain any chemicals that can harm your dog or your family.

In the case of a cat, the situation is yet more knotty since cats are self willed individuals and attempts to shampoo an animal who hates it turns things pretty nasty. By the time you are done with it, your arms may be covered with blood due to the sundry scratches that the desperate cat has surely inflicted. Besides, most of the so-called tick shampoos are irritating both for the pet's skin as well as that of yours. And in any case, they leave a lackluster effect on the pet's fur, making it look lifeless and dull. Whereas a few drops of Flea medicine does away with all that, yet ridding the pest enduringly and well.

Besides the natural treatments you will want to make sure that you keep your dog clean. Give them a bath up to once a week if necessary in the flea season, and brush them daily. You will also want to make sure that you keep your house clean since fleas can get into your house. You want to make sure that you vacuum your carpet and wash anything that your dog sleeps on.

This product is probably the easiest flea treatment to use as well. All you need to do is apply a pre-measured dose once a month to you pet at the base of their head and between the shoulders. There is no mess and the medication will not leave your pet's hair greasy or slimy. It is also designed to treat not only fleas but their eggs and larvae as well; Advantage uses your dog or cat as the catalyst to kill fleas everywhere they could be living in your house. The medication can kill fleas living in your carpets, pet beds, and furniture as well as the fleas on your pet. You should continue treatment monthly even if it is not flea season in order to kill the fleas completely and prevent outbreaks when flea season rolls around again.

Separation Anxiety For Dogs

By Ray Lam

Behavior problems are at the top of the list of unhappy dog owners. Each year dogs are abandoned, put out of their adapted homes, or put to sleep because of bad behavior. Destructiveness, excessive vocalization, and house soiling are the most common signs of separation anxiety. These bad habits occur when the dog is separated from its owner.

Dogs are considered pack animals, so they prefer to be part of a group, and have a "pack leader" to follow and look up to. The dog's owner becomes the "pack leader" in the eyes of the dog, and when the leader isn't there to follow, the dog feels abandoned. This abandonment leads to anxiety and frustration which the dog has to deal with, the only way he knows how, what we call bad behavior.

Boredom combined with excess energy can also expedite separation anxiety. Exercising your dog regularly can circumvent this. If the dog receives a decent amount of regular exercise then the dog will not bristle with energy that might manifest during a separation period. The huge benefit to this is that the dog will not exhibit any potentially destructive behavior. However, it is also wise to secure the dog in an area where it can not do any damage. Rather than having the dog destroying the living room of a home, placing it in the basement is a wiser option. Or, if you lack such a room placing the dog in a decent sized crate/cage will work. Also, leaving the radio on while the dog is alone in the room might aid in making the dog feel less lonely.

Finally, if you need a little help with your separation anxiety related dog house training there are a number of excellent dog sitting/walking services that can help. Many times, a qualified "dog care professional" and swing by and check on your dog and keep him company for a half hour for less than $20. This can work wonders in making your dog's time alone more comfortable and less stressful.

Begin by leaving your dog alone at home for only a few minutes for the first few days or so. Then gradually lengthen your leaves in the weeks ahead. Also you should try to very your leaves at different times of the day so as not to create a pattern or habit. To yelp ease his anxiety, you can leave your dog an article of clothing that has your scent on it.

Potty Training Your Puppy

By Joseph Then

It's a joy to have a puppy around. A puppy is cute, furry and squiggly all at the same time. However, taking in a new puppy would mean more responsibility for you as its care taker. That alright anyway a lot of people say that potty training a pet is easiest when they are young. Unlike if you are training an adult, there are some behaviors that need to be unlearned. So how exactly do you train your puppy? First, timing and routine are important. You need to setup a regular schedule for your little dog. How do you do that? Read more for you to know how to potty train your puppy.

I shall start by explaining the basics to you. You should first consider the age of your puppy. A puupy which is at least three months old is ready for potty training and learn about cleanup.

First Rule: Remember to keep your puppy's meal on a regular schedule. You can take your pet out after he is done with his meal. You can also take out your pet after nap, before his bedtime, or when he whimpers during the night.

Second Rule: Do not overfeed your pet while taking him for a walk. Only feed and give your puppy a little water. As much as possible, do not give water to your puppy two hours before sleeping. Trust me, it will save you the trouble of having to wake up in the middle of the night to clean up unnecessary mess.

Third Rule: After playing with your puppy, you can now bring him outdoors with you on a leash. This would give your puppy a hint that it's time to relieve himself.

Fourth Rule: You should try to bring your puppy to the same spot to relieve itself. This way your puppy can recognoze the area and will try its best to relieve itself at the same spot.

Fifth Rule: What you can do is that you can try training your dog by saying a something to him. If you do this often enough, your puppy will be able to take the cue to relieve himself on your command.

Last: I am sure you like to be praised. Therefore, you should reward or praise your puppy if he relieves himself outside or followed your instructions on potty training.

With potty training, sometimes accidents happen. In case these accidents occur, here are some suggestions on how you can best deal with them.

If you caught your pet in middle of relieving himself, don't scream or yell. Gently nudge your pet to go outside and after this continue the reward thing by praising your puppy.

I am sure it is frustrating seeng the mess left behind by your pet but you need to stay calm and clean up the mess. After that you should continue the potty training routine that you have made up. After cleaning put the soiled cleaning materials outdoors or where your puppy usually relieves himself, making it easier for your pet to recognize where he should go in the future.

So, there you have it. All you need to do now is to stick to the routine that you have drawn out for your puppy. Trust me, with some patience you puppy will be very well discipline. Good luck!
